Great Success at USCAL Mid Atlantic Regional and ProLiteracy Capitol Hill Day

Thanks to Participants and Host Partners for
Making USCAL Mid Atlantic a Great Success!

Feedback from USCAL Mid Atlantic was overwhelmingly positive:

“Discussions about the field with other professional colleagues outside of Maryland was very beneficial.”—an executive director

“The diversity of participants (from CBO’s, colleges, funders, businesses) really enriched the conversations. Thanks—this was very useful to my work!”—an intake/assessment specialist

“Excellent, practical content, thoughtfully presented. ProLiteracy staff is knowledgeable, approachable, and make genuine connections with participants…No other conference will be able to compare!”—a program director

What a successful event! The United States Conference on Adult Literacy (USCAL) Mid Atlantic Regional took place in Linthicum, Maryland, May 24-25, 2011. The two-day conference brought together regional constituents from all fronts of the adult literacy effort—student learners, instructors, volunteers, managers, and advocates—to build national and regional support networks, exchange the latest professional development information, and learn cutting-edge approaches to address the challenges facing adult literacy programs. Participants representing 10 states and the District of Columbia attended USCAL Mid Atlantic Regional.

ProLiteracy Capitol Hill Day followed USCAL Mid Atlantic. Adult learners and program managers took to the halls of Congress on the afternoon of May 25 to urge their elected officials to support funding for adult literacy and basic education programs. Representatives and/or their staff from Delaware, Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, and the District of Columbia made themselves available to learn more about this important cause.

"USCAL Mid Atlantic Regional and ProLiteracy Capitol Hill Day were very successful, impactful events," says David C. Harvey, president and CEO of ProLiteracy. "Our sincere gratitude to our partners—Maryland Association for Adult, Community and Continuing Education; the ProLiteracy Council of State Organizations; and the Dollar General Literacy Foundation—and to elected officials from seven states and the District of Columbia who helped make these events so meaningful.”

We hope to see you at the national conference in Houston!
